Hello everyone! I am very excited to tell
you that last week we officially started our English classes. We have 18
students who will be joining us from last Thursday until the second week of November,
in this course they will learn vocabulary and grammar through activities that
each group has prepared for them.
Group 1💜
Diana's group had the opportunity to be the
first to teach, they taught the alphabet, how to introduce themselves, and some
greetings.
In the Warm up they did a chain activity in
which the students had to introduce themselves and say the name of their
classmate who spoke before, for example: hello my name is Elizabeth, then the
next person introduces me and then says his/her name and so on until the last
person who has to remember everyone's name.
Something that I really liked was that during
the presentation of the lesson all the teachers participated and explained a
part of it, some explained the sounds of the alphabet and others the greetings,
but they all participated.
other activities they did were: choosing a letter of the alphabet and saying a word with that, as well as completing sentences from a dialogue.
Congratulations girls, you did a great job!
Group 2
My awesome team! 💓
Before talking about our experience teaching this class I want to thank my team for all their dedication and effort in preparing this lesson and for encouraging me to develop it.
If I had to choose between interpreting,
translating or teaching, without any doubt I would choose teaching, this is
something that I am passionate about and that I have had the opportunity to do
this for a year now by teaching children in a school and now I have enjoyed it
even more by having the experience of teaching together with my friends.
As a warm up activity Adriana led an
activity in which she divided the whiteboard in three parts and the students had to
put the words in the correct category (subject pronoun, verb to be or
complement).
Then it was my turn to develop the topic " Verb to be in an affirmative form" (I confess I was pretty nervous at first but as I spoke I felt much better confident).
These are some of the important things I
taught during the class:
- Definition:
The verb
to be means to exist (I am here), to occur (The meeting is Tuesday), or to
have the characteristics of something (She is a quiet child). It is the most common verb in English.
- Structure of the verb to be in affirmative form: Subject + verb to be + complement
- What is a Subject pronoun: It is a word used as the subject of a verb, which means that it's the person or thing performing the action.
- Examples:
Singular pronouns
Verb to be
I Am
He
Is
She
Is
It
Is
Plural pronouns:
You
Are
We Are
They
Are
I am Elizabeth (We use the
verb to be to talk about names)
You are 31 years old (Verb to
be to talk about age)
He is an actor (Verb to be to
talk about professions)
She is a doctor (Verb to be to
talk about professions)
It is a dog (Verb to be to
talk about things or animals)
We are happy (Verb to be to
talk about feelings)
You are sad ( Verb to be to
talk about feelings )
They are angry ( Verb to be to
talk about feelings )
And finally Adriana did a wrap up activity called the
mystery bag:
This game was similar to the hot potato game, inside
the bag there were papers in different colors. Each color represents a
different question related to the lesson:
- Name two things you have learned today.
- Create two sentences using the correct sentence
structure.
- List the three "to be" verbs in the
affirmative form.
