Teaching receptive skills

Hi! Welcome to a new post! Today I want to share with you some information about teaching receptive skills. As we have learned during the lessons about types of intelligence and learning styles each student learns through different methodologies and as teachers we must try to adapt our classes according to these factos and this topic is not only about teaching a subject but also about helping students develop the ability to understand the language both spoken and written and that this facilitates their ability to communicate.

How can we teach listening and reading comprehension?
  • Listening comprehension:

Here it is necessary to expose the student to real-life situations through materiales such as videos, songs, role-plays, listening games, etc.

  • Reading comprehension

To promote reading comprehension the teacher needs to provide students with specific reading comprehension materials such as novels, stories, article, newspaper and even English language teaching books in which you can find very intersting reading activities as the book in the picture and letting the student interact through group activities.

Another important fact is that it is neccesary to use differentiated instructions so that each student can understand according to his or her learning style and time.

It is important to asses receptive skills to verify that the student is understanding the activities, give feedback on their progress and let them know what areas they can improve.
