If you're happy and you know it clap your
hands
If you're happy and you know it clap your hands
If you're happy and you know it and you really want to show it
If you're happy and you know it clap your hands... 馃檵
This is a song that I am sure we all have
heard since we were little kids and I always wondered why teachers repeated it
so much and even today they still teaching it to children in their English
classes and the reason is that it works as a learning tool of the Total
Physical Response method or also known as TPR.
TPR consist of teaching language through physical activity because the students understanding of the target language should be developed before speaking, in this method the teacher gives a chunk ( short phrase or command that have meaning) then the students must listen and perform it and it helps them to associate the meaning.
In this class we did an activity in groups, teacher Orlando sang "If you're happy and you know it... " and gave us short commands like clap your hands, stomp your feet and then each group had to say the commands, for example one group sang "If you're happy and you know it move your hips, jump, shout hurray, etc." and in my group we sang "If you´re happy and you know it turn around", this activity was funny and very dynamic.
SWOT
S = Students have fun in class
W = There is much noise
O = Learn new vocabulary through short
commands
T = It is a challenge for the shy
people
